AFL players are after quick bursts of energy and not slow-releasing energy as they burn so much energy so quickly. that is why the use of powerade and other sports drinks and even the drip are being used now days.

Oranges do have natural sugar which give the players energy, but as it is a citrus fruit it will also make them thirsty.

Players should only need to drink water. An apple is a far better choice if you want fruit. The sugar in them is released at a slower rate than an orange, giving you more sustained energy.

A cup of tea and an orange was the traditional energy boost because of it's nutritional value. These days there are energy drinks to replace them
