NRL: Robbie to replace Smith?

So he's good enough for Australia, but people say he's not good enough for Origin. Robbie Farah is set to be named in the Australian 17 man-squad, over Cameron Smith for the Test against New Zealand. The Sunday Herald NRL section by Daniel Lane states the team will look like this:

1. Billy Slater (MEL)
2. Jarryd Hayne (PAR)
3. Greg Inglis (MEL)
4. Michael Jennings (PEN)
5. Brett Morris (STG)
6. Darren Lockey (c) (BRI)
7. Cooper Cronk (MEL)
8. Petero Civoniceva (PEN)
9. Robbie Farah (WST)
10. Josh Perry (MAN)
11. Anthony Watmough (MAN)
12. Paul Gallen (CRO)
13. Luke Lewis (PEN)

14. Sam Thaiday (BRI)
15. Kurt Gidley (NEW)
16. Michael Weyman (STG)
17. David Shillington (CAN)

With Robbie set to be named in the squad over Cameron Smith, do you think NSW selectors will pick Robbie for Origin if he has a good game for his country?

Try Assists: Robbie leads 4-1
Line Break Assists: Robbie leads 3-2
Tackles: Smith leads 36.0 ppg - 35.6 ppg
Missed Tackles: Smith leads 1.7 ppg - 2.3 ppg
Tries: Tied 1-1
Line Breaks: Robbie leads 2-1
Kicks: Robbie leads 6.6 ppg - 5.6 ppg
Kick Metres: Robbie leads 208.7 ppg - 200.3 ppg

BQ: How do you think the squad looks? BTW this is not my squad, it is the "probable team" from a newspaper source.

I read an article on it and i had a bit of a laugh really; you can't drop the best Hooker in the game in Cam Smith (even if Robbie Farah is in more form then him), he's the vice-captain for Christ sake.

And on the Sunday Footy Show they have complete ruled it out because the team has apparently already been named and Cam Smith is Hooker, with Israel Folau out and Cooper Cronk to replace an injured Thurston at Halfback.

BQ: That squad looks pretty good obviously with Smith in for Farah and i would like to see Willie Tonga in for Jennings, i mean Tonga can defend way better than Jennings can.

Edit: This is the team i'd like to see-->

1. Billy Slater

2. Jarryd Hayne

3. Greg Inglis

4. Willie Tonga

5. Brett Morris

6. Darren Lockyer (c)

7. Cooper Cronk

8. Michael Weyman

9. Cam Smith

10. Petero Civoniceva

11. Anthony Watmough

12. Paul Gallen

13. Luke Lewis

14. Kurt Gidley

15. Sam Thaiday

16. Nate Myles

17. David Shillington

Uh yeah I dont think thats very likely lol Its impossible for any player to "edge out" Smith when he's the best in the game by a mile. I really cant see the selectors letting go of Smith's greatness plus his world-class combination with Billy Slater. Stats dont really matter when choosing the Australian team, I'm sure Lockyer, Hayne, Petero, Gallen etc all have less impressive statistics compared to some players who would not even be considered. Smith really doesnt need to compete with any other hooker in the game, in my eyes he is just an automatic selection time after time, it'd be the biggest mistake in the world if they dropped him for Farah... especially now when our team is at its weakest. I honestly cannot even begin to imagine Robbie getting the nod over Smith- it just seems so bizarre!

Referring to "So he's good enough for Australia, but people say he's not good enough for Origin", State Of Origin is a completely different game to internationals. When playing Origin you have to be extremely tough both physically and mentally which alot of people believe that's not Robbie, but when playing for Australia, yeah you have to be tough but its more about showing skill and class and he is great at that, just not better than Smith. Farah is easily the second best hooker in the game, but when Smith is fully fit there's just no comparison. I'd be shocked if Robbie gets the nod.

BQ: Yeah I'd be content with this team if you swap Farah for Smith and Perry for anyone. Not the best looking squad but it'd give me my confidence of knowing they will beat the Kiwis.

Edit: The Sunday Roast panel laughed off this rumour aswell. It really does look impossible for Farah to play. That columnist must have been a Tigers fan lol

So the Australians are going to drop the best player in the world..........big mistake! Strange how they quote form for this decision yet Inglis, Jennings, Hayne, Gidley, Lockyer all get named in terrible form. Tim Sheens playing favourites? Plus if Cronk going to get the 7 jersey wouldn't it be smarter to have him in combination with Cam!

As for origin I don't think theres alot seperating Farah and Ennis, I prefer Farah as anyone in their right mind couldn't like that dirtbag Ennis but like or dislike doesn't win an origin match. Farah played poorly in the 2 NSW losses last year whilst Ennis was drafted into the game 3 win - this is my decisive factor on game 1 selection. (I also see this being the selectors determining factor)

BQ: Its a good team, but when does Australia ever have a bad team? Its about 3 players of what I would have selected. Still shocked that the rightful captain may be overlooked.

You can't just drop Cameron Smith, he's the best hooker in the game right now no matter what those stats say. To be honest, our selectors are idiots if they pick Farah over Smith, especially if Cronk and Slater are getting picked. Smith is the last player I expected to be dropped from the team, that's just crazy.

I'm not too fussed about who gets name for Origin, Farah is the better player but Ennis has the passion and aggression an Origin player needs. If Ennis gets picked good on him, if not then it's better for the Dogs.

BQ: Yeah it looks pretty good, would've looked better if some key players didn't get injured and if Smith gets the number 9 jersey though.

I can't see why they wouldn't pick Cameron Smith .. take it from me Queensland will have him in their Origin squad, and although Robbie Farah seems to be the people's choice the Australian Selectors want to win this game.

Farah may be selected in the NSW Origin Squad, and .. like I've mentioned before .. he's been picked at halfback for the Tigers against the Roosters this afternoon.

I think the author has been on the Alice B Toklas cookies. Smith hasn't done anything to warrant not getting the test job.

WTF. Why on earth would they do that? Stats don't mean everything...but if it's true and Farah does play well then it can only help his origin chances. Good luck to him.

Squad looks pretty good apart from that and i agree with knights10, get rid of Perry. I wouldn't have Gidley there either.
