NSW State of Origin team 2011?
2010-10-29 05:57:10 UTC
They really ned to find a good team heres who i'd pick:
1. Hayne (He would just sneak ahead of Brett Stewart
2. B. Morris (Try Scoring machine)
3. Gasnier (Can't wait to see him back in the Blues)
4. Jennings (Great speed and top player)
5. Michael Gordon (One of the most under rated players)
6. Carney (Well he is just brilliant)
7. Soward (Can play half back and is ten times better than Pearce)
8. Weyman (gets the job done up the middle)
9. Farrah (Always gives a hundred percent and is way better than Ennis)
10. Galloway (Great aggression in his play)
11. Gallen (Great in attack and defence)
12. Creagh (Don't know how he got dropped from origin one of the best back rowers in the game)
13. Bird (Proved this year he is one of the best locks in the game)
14. Young (so under rated)
15. Lewis (He will add great versatility to the bench)
16. Watmough (Top player)
17. Luke Douglas (I think he should get a run)
18th man: Chris Lawrence

Players who just Missed out:
Lyon: I would say either he Lawrence or Jennings should partner gasnier but i would put jennings in front.
Brett Stewart: Would have him if he had played league in 2010
Uate: I would squeeze Morris and Gordon just in front of him but in a few years he will be there
Idris: Didn't get much of a chance in agem one but i think young and watmough edge him out slightly.
Heighington:I actually could not decide between him and watmough

Over rated
Gidley: Never makes an impact on the game
Tahu: Never thought he was much good
Ennis: Well he needs to sought him self out and he's no where near Farrah
Learoyd-Lahrs: Don't know what people see in him
Pearce: The most overated player in the NRL
Cooper: Plays weel for st george but recently not for Rep football

It really depends on early season form:

1. Hayne is the obvious choice at the moment but if Brett Stewart is fit and back in form he has a better try scoring strike rate than any player in the comp, even far higher than Billy the Cat.

2. B. Morris - I'm still on the edge with him since his defense in origin last year was attrocious and he is simply speed on the end of the dragons backline.

3. Jennings

4. Lyon - Easily the form centre through the majority of 2010 and also has one of the highest goalkicking percentages, especially good from out wide.

5. Gordon - Fairly average last year in origin but I think he deserves another chance.

6. Campese

7. Pearce

8. Learoyd-Lahrs

9. Farrah - NSW are struggling for a top line hooker but I'd certainly take farrah over Ennis.

10. Snowden

11. Lewis - Versatile and has been in great form for the last 12 months or so.

12. Watmough

13. Gallen/G. Stewart - I'd have both in the side and either could start at lock.

14. Gallen/G. Stewart

15. King

16. Bird

17. Galloway

Weyman is as soft as a wet sponge and should never play origin again. Not sure why selectors perservere with him. Cooper has gone past his prime. Creagh is a cat and not up to origin. Soward is not made for origin football. Tahu has come back to league thinking he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. NSW have failed for too long and some new blood should be brought in.

1 Hayne

2 Uate

3 Gasnier

4 Jennings ( Would like to see him get an extended run and see if he can have an impact in Origin).

5 Morris

6 Carney

7 Pearce

13 Bird

12 Gallen

11 Hindmarsh

10 Leahrohd-Lahrs

9 Ennis

8 Snowden

14 Gidley

15 Mannah

16 Douglas

17 Idris (Play as a wide running second rower)

The pack is full of guys who are made for Origin. I don't know why any body bothers with Weyman. Does well for the Dragons but nothing at Origin level.

1. Hayne

2. Uate - He neees to picked. We need players who can provide something out of nothing and he's the man for it. He was a country mile better then every winger this year, except for maybe Vatuvei.

3. Gasnier/Lawrence - If Gaz can get back to his next year, then he's a shoo-in. If not, i'd go with Lawrence.

4. Jennings

5. M Gordon

6. Carney - He's a must after the year he's had!

7. Pearce - Not sold on him really, but theres no better options atm, unless Mullen or someone else steps up in 2011

8. Snowden - Played really well this year imo.

9. Farrah - I agree, he's better then Ennis, but im not sure at origin. It's a tough one

10. Weyman

11. Gallen - He's a must. If he can cut down on the penalties, he'd be one of our better NSW forwards.

12. Lewis

13. Bird - We need him. He was by far our best forward for NSW

14. Gidley

15. Watmough - Had a very ordinary year this season, so hes on the bench

16. Learoyd-Lahrs - He has to be in the team. He was by far our best prop for NSW this season, and his aggression and passion will upset those Queenslanders!

17. Galloway

These are the problems I have with your team;

1. You put 3 of the in-form players for the NSW Origin team under the sign underrated. Quite frankly, no Prop did their job as well as Tom Leoroyd-Lahrs did his (arguably Bird in the 3rd game), while Gidley and Ennis stood out as the two playmakers on the field who actually moved the ball around well. Individually, they may be found overrated, but they did they job well for NSW, and if more players reached the form those 3 had produced, NSW might not have faced a whitewash.

2. Your team seems to have more offensive 2nd rowers (or at least for the run-on players), which I believe would prove to be counter-productive against the rock-solid attack and defense. Gallen may appear to be a good defensive player, but he doesn't follow the ball around like some other of the better 2nd rowers, and quite frankly, if anyone puts a step on him, providing they are reasonably fast, they would be able to make mincemeat of him (For proof, see Slater's try in SOO3 this year)

3. Carney and Soward, when push comes to shove, melt under the pressure. On the big stage at the crucial seconds when the match is on the line, they reach blanks and need other playmakers (Anasta and Fien, respectively) to do the smart work for them. Under Origin conditions, I don't believe they could function.

4. Gasnier hasn't done anything to impress me. He's made a few linebreaks, but besides from that, it seems to me he always tries to be a hero, and only really passes if he makes a linebreak or an offload. I suppose compared to other Dragons players, at least he is doing something that constitutes as exciting, but I still don't believe him to be in the top-2 NSW Centres because of it.

Anyway, criticism aside, my team;

1. Jarryd Hayne

2. Brett Morris

3. Josh Morris

4. Jamie Lyon

5. Akuila U'ate

6. John Sutton

7. Kurt Gidley

8. Michael Weyman

9. Michael Ennis

10. Keith Galloway

11. Nathan Hindmarsh

12. Luke Lewis

13. Greg Bird

14. Todd Carney

15. Tom Leoroyd-Lahrs

16. Aiden Tolman

17. Anthony Watmough

18th Man: Chris Heighington

Just some reasons why I picked the team;

I know I criticised Carney earlier, but the way I see things, NSW really has no decent Halfbacks now Kimmorley has retired. Carney, Soward and Wallace fold under pressure, James Maloney and Hodkinson would be too young for an Origin assignment in my opinion (Maybe give him next year, and see what happens), and Pearce is really not quite up to that level. As a result, this has lead me in giving Gidley the Halfback position because he is the only one who the boot fits. Sutton cleans up the Five-Eighth squad mostly through Campese's injury.

Jamie Lyon got over the line for me for two reasons. First off, he brings a lot of versatility to his play Jennings doesn't show as often. Perhaps the main reason why I picked him, however, is the fact he is both a competant centre and a competant kicker. I'm also not going to put him as a Five-Eighth, because he is a bloody centre. I swear, it would be like having David Stagg as a Winger. Can he play there? Yes. Should he, if he wants to play another position? No.

Aiden Tolman is a player I have regarded as possibly being a decent Origin player for a while. It may be because he used to play for Melbourne, but I have always liked him as a player.

Michael Gordon has definitely be the goal kicker as he had an awesome season, breaking many records. Many people should'nt overlook Jarrod Croker (canberra) he had a pretty good season too. Luke lewis was the heart of panthers 2010,and he scored 2 tries (so far) in the kangaroos jersey. I agree with your suggestion on Hayne, Morris and Young, they would be good for the team.

I would like to add that the team should be partially selected by Blues supporters and reviewed by selectors so the supporters have their say in the players that would be good as many of us may know more than the selectors themselves. just saying (:

6. Todd Carney

7. Mitchell Pearce

8. Kade Snowden

9. Robbie Farah

10. Michael Weyman

11. Luke Lewis

1. Hayne

2. B Morris

3. Gasnier

4. Jennings/J Morris - either would be great

5. Gordon/Merritt - neither would let the team down

6. Campese if he's fit, if not probably Carney

8. Weyman

9. Farah though Ennis wouldn't surprise

10.Snowden

11. Watmough

12. Learoyd-Lahrs

13. Gallen

14. Lewis

15. Heighington

16. Galloway

17. Waterhouse

Soward is to fragile a defender. Look at the GF where he was consistently moved away from the action in defence. Wouldn't look at Gidley either. Has played two good Origin 3 games when it didn't matter.

I agree with most of your team but there are four players there i would definitely drop down into the overrated list and they are:

Gasnier, Soward, Weyman and Creagh.

these four do not have what it takes to play Origin especially soward.

Weyman is way to soft.

Creagh is a cat and one of the most overrated players in the game.

Gasnier was good a long time ago but i think he was in Union for to long and has lost it.

Pearce isn't overrated they are trying to bring him into rep footy so he will be a future player because they are sick of putting in the old players who retire or get hurt like Kimorley and Barrett
