Question:
enough is enough with blaming the selectors?

NOTE: For those of you who have an underdeveloped sense of humour and seem to take offence to almost everything, this is not a joke question but actually a more serious one so now you can tell the difference...

So really why do so many answers on this website seem to accuse/blame the NSW origin team selectors for the fact that you might lose the next state of origin game. No scapegoats ok.
As far as I am aware, nobody who posts answers here has ever been a state of origin selector or really has much idea as to what really goes into choosing the side. I doubt its a simple as choosing the best 17 players. It's not like the selectors actually think "I'm gonna choose a really poor side this year" because contrary to popular belief they aren't stupid, which is more than I can say for some people around here (<-Note for Mel that phrase is a joke, don't get offended). There are probably hundreds of factors which we know nothing about which goes into choosing the side. For instance, maybe they are planning ahead for future years, building up potential players, playing sub-standard players because the chances of winning may not be great so they don't want to destroy confidence of others.

Also keep in mind that the NRL is a profiteering business and therefore, profits are basically a main goal. Maybe you will sell more tickets and get better TV ratings if crowd pleaser is playing instead of a dedicated toiler.

Anyway the team chosen by Y!A would probably just as likely lose as the one chosen by the selectors

The blues supporters simply use the selectors as an excuse as to why they will now lose 5 series in a row. Pretty poor sportsmanship actually, nothing wrong with saying you guys won from being pure rugby league geniuses, but instead they try to blame others for their poor teams. I think it is about time they blame their own sides who obviously don't care enough to win.

Why bring me into this? I have said very little on the selectors. I'm sure I know more then you do.

Fact is, the coach picks the team. The coach has bias. The coach also has a game plan in mind when he selects the team which may or may not work.

Problem is QLD have the top players at the moment, look at the AUS side, mostly QLDers. Yes they have thier reasons for picking who they did but somethings we all fail to understand. Why put a centre as 5/8th why not pick a big hitter like Gallen or Bird?

Personally I don't understand why players keep getting picked on reputation not on form. Is it in the hope that they can step up because they know they can or do they think it's expected those players be there?

The selectors are not so much the problem anyway, it's the coach who gets all say. I'm glad that most of the Storm are QLDers otherwise one guess what the team would look like. I think we like QLD need a coach not connected to an NRL team.

Until NSW can find a decent halfback, 5/8 combination they will never beat this QLD team, and they haven't managed to pick a good one yet. That's not the fault of the selectors but a lack of talent in these positions for NSW. The last time NSW won a series they had Joey as halfback and he proved to be the difference between the two teams. QLD also have the Melbourne combination of Inglis(who should be playing for NSW), Slater and Smith and they are dominant in these positions.

Edit: QLD haven't been much better at congratulating NSW when they have won a series either. They usually make some excuse as well rather than say they got beaten by a better team.

As I have said before, the NSW selectors this year seem to have gone out of their way to play players out of position and made picks not based on form. Reputation, club bias and or potential seem to sway the selectors more than, as I have said previously and many others have also said, CURRENT FORM.

I don't think that NSW's supporters are looking for excuses; it that they are questioning the selections based on what they have probably seen on the field. It's not only the Y/A members asking questions about the selections, TV shows, radio, newspapers columnists and other League followers (a lot smarter than I) am are asking the same questions and pointing out many of the same areas of concern as the people who have voiced their opinion here

The team chosen by the Y!A crowd is better than the side the selectors chose but it still wouldn't beat the QLD team. Just because everyone can pick a better side than the NSW selectors doesn't mean that that side would win.

There is no problem with NSW supporters wanting their team to win .. whether or not you like the fact that we are frustrated with the teams we are given is a moot point. Any team has a group of selectors who have their own favourites (like Jarryd Hayne, who wouldn't be my water boy!!), and they ignore current form and just go on reputation. This is where they are to blame for failure, and the Coach can only use the troops he is given.

The whole State Of Origin concept started because Queensland were tired of being beaten by players who had defected, so they brought them back to their Origin. These were players from every team in Sydney, we all know the names.

The players left to better themselves, because in the days before Origin, they all wanted to play in Sydney. Those are the facts, thumbs down all you want. As a matter of fact, the thumbs down usually come from Queenslanders who don't understand the idea of an open forum, where everyone's opinion is as valid as anyone else's.

*** Wrong Colonel K ... I don't believe in "thumbs down", so I NEVER do that to anyone. You can have your say, as long as I can have mine.

you may think of Malthouse is a whinger , yet why are you whinging approximately him ! Malthouse has coached in over 500 video games and is a 2 time premiership coach. i in my opinion consider what he's asserting. soccer has replaced from what it became into 10 years in the past and to maintain %., there ought to "6" interchange gamers I have little question approximately that . 2 for the decrease back 6, 2 for the centre 6, and 2 for the forward 6. in case you maintain on with the sport heavily, and are conscious of the "%." of the present play , certainly you need to consider what I even have purely pronounced. If not clarify why its not achieveable !

Because they want something to use as an excuse when they lose.

No one likes to admit that the opposition is just better.

I don't mean this offensively- but it's human nature to want to blame someone or something, and by telling yourselves you've got a bad team to begin with, losing won't feel as bad. I would probably feel the same if I were a Blues supporter, because I know I feel more nervous for the Maroons because we have no excuse if we lose. I personally don't think the NSW team is all that horrible, and never ever consider the Blues the underdogs.
